Ejector / Eductor Systems
Are used primarily in lower permeability soils, e.g. sand and silt. Also, when pumping levels are too deep for wellpoint installation.
About Ejector / Eductor Systems
What are Ejector / Eductor Systems?
Ejector and eductor systems are non-mechanical jet pumps. A high-pressure motive fluid (high-pressure stream of gas, liquid or steam) used to drive, move or compress another substance inside a jet pump or ejector; moves, compresses, or entrains (carries along) another fluid (in our case, usually water), using the Venturi Effect*.
How are Ejectors Installed?
Just like deep wells, wells are drilled and installed in lower permeability soils. High pressure water from a tank and supply pumps at ground level, is then circulated down the well into an ejector nozzle and venturi (a short pipe or tube with a tapering constriction in the middle. It speeds up fluid flow, dropping its pressure), at the foot of the well. The water flow generates a vacuum, drawing the groundwater in before returning the excess water to the surface to be drained off. With the remaining water moved on to the supply pump for recirculation.
* Venturi Effect – As the fluid accelerates through the nozzle, its velocity is increased and its pressure significantly drops thus creating a localised vacuum.
